Much more organized than Canadian homeless people. I wonder if this is just an area where drug use is not as prevalent?
It seems every homeless person in Canada is a drug addict & criminal.

The Japanese are nothing if not dignified to a fault. These people probably have real day jobs too.

Can we not fetish these people just because they’re Japanese?
It’s gross. Truly. Homelessness is an issue that needs attention, anywhere. Don’t use this to elevate one and dunk on another.
And while these places exist, this guy isn’t showing you the guy that used to rifle through all the bin bags on my street at 3AM on recycling day to take the cans to sell, nor the guy that used to walk up and down the train carriages on my commute with all of his possessions on his back just to get out of the cold, nor the countless old bag ladies that just sleep wherever they find themselves.
This is honestly messed up. Homelessness isn’t addressed by the government here, at all. It’s sick to be like “see, this is how you should be homeless”. The fetishization of everything Japanese really turns my stomach.

If this happened in the US everyone would scream ”Omg the US such a 3rd world country!!!!”

Oh boy. Here come the fetishists. Honestly, though… in my (USA) city, people can’t be this organized and out of the way while between homes because the cops will come in and break/throw away their stuff… including their tents and sleeping bags. It’s pretty disgusting, honestly. They’ll toss donated clothes someone needs to try to work a job to save up money for a place, too. This has all been government-sanctioned bullshit to top it all off

Geez more organized than my apartment.

For one, this is one encampment, and not representative of Japans population. Two, Japan being an island nation makes it much harder for drugs to get in. And three, an actual sense of community means that the Japanese actually invest in keeping people off the street, a concept alien to us in the US. Finally the carrots and sticks in Japanese society are such that many would rather kill themselves than be fired. A lot of happiness and freedom is sacrificed for this.
